A correlation study between brace compliance, in-brace correction and quality of life (QoL) of patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS)

چکیده
Material and method In this prospective correlation study, 55 patients diagnosed with AIS were recruited. All were female and aged 10 years or above when a brace was prescribed, none had undergone prior treatment, and all had a Risser sign of 0-2 and a Cobb angle of 25-40 degree. The patients were examined in 3 consecutive visits with 4-6 months between each visit. The Chinese translated Trunk Appearance Perception Scale (TAPS) (Range 1-5), the Chinese translated Brace Questionnaires (BrQ) (Range 20-100) and the Chinese translated SRS-22 Questionnaires (Range 22-110) were used. In-brace Cobb angle, vertebral rotation and trunk listing were measured. Patients’ compliance, in-brace correction and patients’ QoL were assessed. To identify the relationship among these three areas, logistic regression model and generalized linear model were used.

A correlation study between in-brace correction, compliance to spinal orthosis and health-related quality of life of patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
BACKGROUND It has been proposed that in-brace correction is the best guideline for prediction of the results of brace treatment for patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). However, bracing may be a stressful experience for patients and bracing non-compliance could be psychologically related. The purpose of this study was to assess the correlation between brace compliance, in-brace ...

BACKGROUND Clinical evidence regarding the ability of braces to decrease the risk of curve progression to surgical threshold in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) continues to strengthen. Unfortunately, there is still a great deal of uncertainty regarding the impact of brace wear on psychosocial well-being or the impact of psychological well-being on brace wear adherence. The p...
متن کاملFirst results of the Maastricht brace in the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Background The Maastricht brace (M-brace) was developed to improve compliance and associated efficacy of brace treatment in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Initial pressure measurements in the M-brace revealed a higher corrective pressure as compared to the Boston brace, and a better patient reported quality of life, as measured with the SRS 22 and Brace questionnaire. We present the fir...
متن کاملThe relationship between quality of life and compliance to a brace protocol in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis: a comparative study
BACKGROUND Corrective bracing for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) has favourable outcomes when patients are compliant. However, bracing may be a stressful and traumatic experience and compliance with a bracing protocol is likely to be dependent upon patients' physical, emotional and social wellbeing. The Brace Questionnaire (BrQ), a recently-developed, condition-specific tool to measure q...
